Walsh Returns Home to Host Findlay

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers football team returns home to Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium after two straight weeks on the road. The Cavaliers will host the University of Findlay Oilers at 1:00 PM on Saturday (Oct. 12) in a G-MAC matchup.  

GAMEDAY INFORMATION

The Opening Kickoff

  • The Cavaliers captured the inaugural Pride & Passion Trophy last week in a 21-6 win over the Lake Erie Storm in Painesville, Ohio. 
    • Walsh trailed 6-0 after the first quarter but held the Storm scoreless through the final three quarters. 
  • Walsh compiled 280 rushing yards on 65 rushes (3rd most in G-MAC history), leading to two touchdowns.
  • Seven different players combined for the 65 rushing attempts.
  • The defense created five takeaways against the Storm offense with three interceptions and two fumbles in the contest. For the season, Walsh forced eight takeaways (six interceptions and two fumbles).
  • Marlyn Hill, Sal Sidebotham and Antoine Holloway each picked off Storm QB Javarian Smith while Morgan Trust and Phillip Keller both forced fumbles. 
  • Walsh and Findlay have met six times in the series history. The Oilers are 5-1 against the Cavaliers, including two straight wins.

The Opposition

    • The Oilers have won two straight games after a 1-2 start.
  • Matt Winzeler has completed 52.3% (81-155) of his passes for 1,072 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. 
  • Brian Benson leads the Oilers and is 2nd in the G-MAC with 515 rushing yards. 
  • Ruben Flowers has caught 35 passes for 492 yards and four TD's.
  • Richard Sheler has a team-high 37 tackles on defense.
  • Christopher Jefferson made three interceptions last week and leads the G-MAC with five picks this season. 
  • Mitch Hebenstreit is the reigning G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Week. 

Walsh will host West Liberty for Homecoming Weekend on Saturday (Oct. 19) at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Kickoff against the Hilltoppers is set for 1:00 PM.
