Football Heads to Missouri Baptist for Finale

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers football team will close the 2019 season on the road in St. Louis, Missouri with a non-conference matchup with the NAIA Missouri Baptist Spartans on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 2:00 PM Eastern (1:00 PM Central) time. 

GAMEDAY INFORMATION

The Opening Kickoff

  • Walsh ended conference play 2-5 as they fell 24-17 at Alderson Broaddus last week. The Cavaliers rallied from a 17-3 deficit in the fourth quarter but was defeated on a touchdown drive with seven minutes left. 
  • Nick Gassman threw two touchdowns, one each to Brad Scott and Dillon Smith as he completed a season-high 15 passes for 114 yards passing with no interceptions. 
    • Smith's touchdown pass was from five yards out in the final 1:14 of the third quarter. With 11:16 left in the fourth quarter, Gassman found Scott for a 13-yard TD. 
    • Gassman also compiled 55 rushing yards on ten carries. 
  • Koby Adu-Poku rushed for 100 yards on 17 carries as the Cavaliers rushed the ball 35 times for 178 yards as a team. 
    • Adu-Poku caught the game-tying two point conversion in the fourth quarter from Gassman. 
  • Deondre Cook and Quinn Thomas each caught four passes for 52 and 18 yards, respectively. As noted above, Scott and Smith came up one catch for a touchdown each.
  • Leondre Crosby made 16 tackles on Saturday with 12 solo stops and two tackles for loss. 
  • Walsh faces Missouri Baptist for the first time in program history despite Walsh being an NAIA team until 2011-12.

The Opposition

  • Missouri Baptist is 2-8 overall this season and have lost three straight games. The Spartans were defeated 25-13 to Robert Morris last week. 
  • John Lux was the starting QB with 174-for-334 passing with 16 TD's, 16 INT's and 2,207 passing yards but is out with an injury. Freshman Josh Munn, who also is the punter, will start at quarterback after making his QB debut last week. He completed 11 of 20 passes in emergency duty with 274 yards and one interception. 
  • Chris Baldwin has 108 carries for 547 yards and ten touchdowns on Missouri Baptist's rushing attack. 
  • The Spartans average 23.7 points on 384.6 total yards per game while the defense allows 30.3 points on 329.9 total yards per game.
