HARROGATE, Tenn. - On Sunday (Feb. 10), the Walsh Cavaliers softball team wrapped up a four-game series in Harrogate, Tennessee with another split doubleheader.
The Cavaliers fell to Maryville 17-6 in five innings for game one. Lincoln Memorial defeated the Cavaliers 12-4 in five innings in game two.
Maryville scored four runs in the top of the first before Walsh cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the frame. Katelyn Loughman opened the game with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch on a walk to Jessie Rock allowed Loughman to move to third. Brooke Six plated Loughman with an RBI single. Rock scored from second on an RBI single from Kirsten Reed.
The Saints scored 13 runs in the second inning but the Cavaliers continued to chip away at the Saints.
In the third, Taylor Yoder crossed the plate on a fielding error by the Saints.
In the fourth inning, Loughman singled and advanced on two wild pitches. Rock brought Loughman home with her second RBI knock of the day.
Walsh closed the scoring with two runs in the fifth inning. Yoder reached on an one-out triple. She scored when Loughman reached first on an error. Loughman came home when Katelyn Kennedy doubled in the final run of the game.
Loughman went two-for-three with two singles, three runs scored and a walk. Kennedy also added two hits in the first game of the day.
Katie Herrick tossed three and one third innings of shutout relief for the Cavaliers.
Game Two vs. Lincoln Memorial
Walsh opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Kennedy and Rock both doubled, before Emma Bobey loaded the bases with a walk. Six brought Kennedy home with a sacrifice fly and Yoder singled home Rock.
The Railsplitters put up 12 runs in the first four innings, taking a 12-2 lead into the fifth inning.
For the fifth inning, Walsh loaded the bases with two walks and a single. Two runners scored on a throwing error by the second baseman.
Yoder led the Cavs with three hits while Annie Dehnke had two runs batted in in the nightcap.
In two weeks, the Cavaliers will travel to Kentucky State for a four-game series starting on Saturday, February 23rd.
