EDINBORO, Pa. – The Walsh Cavaliers women's lacrosse team battled the Edinboro Fighting Scots on a snowy Wednesday (Feb. 27) afternoon as the Cavaliers improved to 2-0 with an 11-8 win.

The game was scoreless for the first nine minutes before Edinboro broke the scoreless draw with a goal. Hannah McFeeters scored two straight goals, including one on an assist from Jenny Spragg as the Cavaliers took a 2-1 lead with 18:25 in the first half. The Fighting Scots tied the contest at two just seconds later. Three minutes later, Kendra Cowen-Tripp put the Cavaliers back up 3-2. With 11 minutes left in the half, Edinboro knotted the score at three. Lindsay Hindman and Sam Paulson both scored goals as Walsh pushed the lead to 5-3 with nine minutes to go before halftime. Emily Atwood and Ellen Lawrence both had assists on the two goals. The Fighting Scots tied the game at five with two straight goals in the following two minutes. McFeeters gave the Cavs a 6-5 lead with just over one minute left in the half. Walsh led 6-5 at the intermission.

Just seconds into the second half, McFeeters added her fourth goal of the game, giving the Cavaliers a 7-5 advantage. The teams exchanged goals over the next seven minutes, with Skylar Crandell answering an Edinboro goal. With 15 minutes left, Edinboro cut the lead to 8-7 but could not get any closer. Walsh scored three consecutive goals, putting the game away. Cowen-Tripp scored and then assisted on a Crandell goal two minutes after. Lawrence scored her first goal of the afternoon on an assist from Becky Parker with four minutes to go. Edinboro added one final goal with 2:27 left in the game, as they fell 11-8 to the Cavaliers.

McFeeters led with four goals, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Cowen-Tripp scored two goals with one assist and two draw controls. Crandell finished with two goals, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Mikaela Faus and Grace Andreski each led the Cavaliers with five groundballs while Sam Paulson picked up three groundballs.

Faus made 12 saves and caused two turnovers in the goal for the Cavaliers.

Walsh will travel to face Tusculum on Saturday (March 2) at 1:00 PM.
