Box Score 2 NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers softball team opened G-MAC play with a doubleheader sweep against the Storm of Lake Erie College on Tuesday (March 19) at home.
Walsh walked off in game one with a 7-6 win in game one and finished off the sweep with a 9-5 win in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
Walsh jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Emma Bobey doubled home a run before Brooke Six laid down a fielder's choice bunt, scoring a second run.
Lake Erie took the 5-2 lead with two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth inning.
A three-run fifth knotted the game at five. Jessie Rock pulled the Cavaliers within one with a two-run double. Six tied the game at with a RBI single to left center field.
The Storm regained the lead in the sixth inning with a run. The lead was shortlived as Rock plated another run with her second double of the game.
The game went to extra innings until the Cavaliers ended the game on a game-winning RBI single. Alina Molette hit an one-out double leading to Katelyn Loughman's walk-off RBI single as Walsh won 7-6.
Rock, Bobey and Taylor Yoder all had multi-hit games as the Cavaliers totaled ten hits in the opener.
GAME TWO
The Storm scored two runs in the second inning, taking an early lead over the Cavs.
A five-run third inning was key as Walsh gained a 5-2 advantage. Loughman had a two-run double, Rock drilled a two-run homerun and a run scored on an error.
Loughman doubled for the second straight inning as she drove in a run in the fourth inning, vaulting the Cavaliers' lead to 6-2.
Lake Erie trimmed the lead to 6-5 with a three spot in the fifth inning.
In the Walsh half of the fifth, Katelyn Kennedy put the game away with a two-run double and Molette added a RBI fielder's choice. Walsh completed the sweep with a 9-5 victory.
Loughman, Six, Hailey Warren and Molette each had two hits, all a part of a 12-hit Cavaliers effort.
Walsh will have a quick turnaround with a home doubleheader against Urbana on Wednesday (March 20) at 3:00 PM.
