Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers women's lacrosse team held off a second half run by the McKendree Bearcats, hanging on to an 11-8 win on Tuesday (March 10) afternoon at Vasco Field.
The Bearcats erased a four-goal deficit in the second half before Walsh ended the game with a 5-2 run.
Melinda Maers opened the game with two goals in the opening ten minutes, giving Walsh a 2-0 lead. Over the next six minutes, the Bearcats tied the game with two goals. The Cavaliers ended the first half with four straight goals as they took a 6-2 lead into halftime. Hannah McFeeters scored two free position shot goals along with goals scored from Skylar Crandell and Grace Andreski.
McKendree added four consecutive goals in the first nine minutes, tying the contest at six. McFeeters tallied the game-winner with 19:30 left before adding a fourth goal two minutes later, assisted by Lindsay Hindman. The Bearcats trimmed the deficit with a goal halfway through the second half. Emily Atwood, Crandell and McFeeters fueled the Walsh 3-1 run over the last nine minutes, adding to the 11-8 final score.
McFeeters scored five goals with six draw controls and two groundballs. Maers found the back of the net twice with two draw controls. Crandell had a pair of goals with a draw control and a groundball. Taylor Nagy picked up four groundballs on defense. Hindman finished the afternoon with an assist, two groundballs, and three draw controls. Halle Kotulock caused two turnovers and had two groundballs.
Rebecca Tomaszewski made 13 saves with three groundballs in the goal, earning her second straight win.
Walsh hosts #5 Lindenwood on Thursday (March 12) at 4:00 PM on Vasco Field.
