PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers women's lacrosse team defeated the Ursuline College Arrows on Tuesday (April 14) 22-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Walsh opened the scoring with a free position goal from Grace Andreski in the opening minute. Melinda Maers scored one minute later before Ursuline got on the board with a goal less than four minutes in. The Cavaliers scored seven straight goals in a 12 minute period as the lead grew to 9-1 with 13:02 remaining in the first half. Five different Cavaliers scored on the run and three different players had assists. After an Ursuline goal, Walsh scored back-to-back goals from Hannah McFeeters and Lindsay Hindman for an 11-2 lead. Ursuline closed the half with two goals in the final five minutes as Walsh led 11-4 at the intermission. 
    • Andreski scored three times and had one assist in the opening half. Hindman and Emily Atwood tallied two goals each in the first 30 minutes while Maers, Morgan Miller and McFeeters had one goal each. Ellen Lawrence assisted on four goals in the half. Kendra Cowen-Tripp scored three points on one goal and two assists. 
  • Cowen-Tripp started the second half with two goals in a two-minute span as Walsh expanded the lead to 13-4. The teams exchanged goals throughout the second half until Walsh outscored Ursuline 5-1 in the final 11 minutes. Walsh won the contest 22-12. 
    • Atwood had three goals in the second half as McFeeters totaled four points on three goals and one assist. Cowen-Tripp scored twice with Maers and Miller adding one goal each. Isabella Kelty had two points (one goal and one assist) and Lawrence tallied two more assists in the second half.

  • Allie Marks scored five goals while Michaela Riley tallied four points on one goal and three assists. 

BEHIND THE NUMBERS 

  • Walsh won the categories of ground balls (24-16), clears (23-12) and shots (40-25)
  • Ursuline ended the game as the leader in the following category: draw controls (18-17)

NEXT UP

  • Walsh will host the same Arrows team on Larry Staudt Field on Friday (April 16) for Senior Night. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
