Cavaliers swept by Oilers in conference doubleheader

FINDLAY, OH- The Cavaliers were swept by conference opponent Findlay University Friday (April 2nd) in a double-header. Walsh scored one run in the first game as they lost 6-1. The Oilers outscored the Cavs 8-4 in the second game of the day. 

Score: Walsh 1, Findlay 6 & Walsh 4, Findlay 8

Location: Findlay, Ohio (Anderson Field)

Records: Walsh 12-10 (2-4), Findlay 12-11 (3-3)

GAME ONE

The Oilers were hot at the plate to start the game as they scored the first three runs. Down 3-0, Jessie Rock hit an RBI that allowed shortstop Sarah Moats to score. Walsh cut the Oiler lead to two, but Fiindlay proved to be too much for the remainder of the game as they went on to score three more runs to make the final score 6-1.

Five Cavaliers recorded one hit a piece, but struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Sarah Moats hit a double to left center to start the game, but was followed by two strikeouts and one ground out to shortstop.

At the top of the second inning, Katelyn Loughman ignited the Cavalier offense with a single down the first base line. Loughman reached second on a SAC bunt, but was followed by two strikeouts to finish the inning. 

Emma Bobey and Kalin Kovach also each hit a single late in the game. 

Sara Gockenbach pitched all six innings for Walsh and threw three strikeouts for the day. 

GAME TWO

Walsh lost the second game of the series by a score of 8-4. 

The Cavaliers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Katelyn Loughman sent Emma Bobey home in the top of the third with an RBI up the middle. 

Walsh went on to score three more runs in the fourth inning while holding a strong defensive stand against the Oilers. A Bryn Elliott double sent Sophia Slack home to make the score 2-0. With two runners on base, Emma Bobey recorded her 14th RBI of the season to put the Cavs up 3-0. With Bryn Elliott on third base, Jessie Rock reached first on a passed ball that sent Elliott home. Walsh led 4-0 heading into the 5th inning. 

The Oilers answered the Cavaliers with an 8-0 run to win the game. A Caroline Turner single to left center sent two baserunners home to cut the Cavalier lead to two. 

Findlay took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer by Kyla Snow to put the Oilers up 5-4. 

Findlay went on to score three more runs to make the final score 8-4. 

UP NEXT

The Cavaliers will continue conference play at Cedarville University Saturday, April 3rd.
