PITTSBURG, Kansas - With four different Cavaliers competing at the 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships this weekend in six different events, the combinations were aplenty for Walsh to bring home some awards from Kansas this weekend.
Three of the participants earned All-American honors in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Robert W. Plaster Center in four different events. Alexa Leppelmeier claimed a pair of First Team All-American awards in the Mile and the 3000 meter run. Kelsey Hartsock and Ndidiamaka Anaraodo were Second Team All-American in the Pole Vault and Weight Throw, respectively.
Leppelmeier now has seven All-American honors between cross country, indoor and outdoor track for her career - including five indoor All-American accolades. She qualified for the Mile finals on Friday with a prelim time of 4:48.77 before she finished fourth in the finals, clocking in at 4:56.83. Later on Saturday, Leppelmeier crushed her own school record in the 3000 meter run for an eighth-place finish. Her time of 9:30.37 was the second fastest in the G-MAC record books.
As a freshman, Hartsock made her National Championship debut in the Pole Vault. Hartsock topped out at 3.95 meters for an 11th place finish. She was one of seven competitors with a 3.95 meter vault but ranked 11th by number of attempts. She made the bar on her third try of 3.95 meters. 11th place earned her Second Team All-American honors for the event.
Anaraodo took part in the Shot Put and Weight Throw events over the weekend while placing in the top 12 in the Weight Throw. She was 11th best in the Weight Throw with a throw of 18.31 meters, gaining a Second Team All-American award. She now has three All-American awards in her career and a pair in the Indoor realm. She was 15th in the Shot Put with a best mark of 12.80 meters on Saturday.
Jacob Ott placed 14th overall in the Weight Throw on the men's side as he began his National Championships with an 18.67 meter throw.
