Box Score 2 CANTON, OH- The Walsh softball team swept cross-town rival Malone University Saturday (April 23) in a G-MAC doubleheader. The Cavaliers tallied 22 runs on 26 hits, including eight extra-base hits.
Score: Game One Walsh 9, Malone 0; Game Two Walsh 13, Malone 4
Records: Walsh 9-19 (5-11), Malone 6-20 (2-13)

GAME ONE (W, 9-0):
- Both teams remained scoreless through the first inning before Jessie Rock reached first base on a throwing error in the top of the second. A Katelyn Loughman single to left field put runners on first and second. McKenna Voiers hit an RBI single as Walsh scored their first run of the game. With runners on second and third, Kalin Kovach hit a homerun to extend the Walsh lead 4-0.
- The Cavaliers proved dominant in the top of the fourth inning as they scored five runs on six hits.
- With a runner on second, Kalin Kovach hit her second homerun of the game to make the score 6-0.
- With two outs, Bryn Eliott reached first with a single to shortstop. A Sarah Moats single to left field advanced Eliott to second. With runners on first and third, graduate transfer Brooklyn Hellman hit an RBI single to put Walsh ahead 7-0.
- Moats made the score 8-0 as she reached home plate on a Madi Russo single to right field.
- A Jessie Rock RBI double to center field made the final score 9-0.
- Olivia Betson pitched all five innings as she threw six strikeouts on the day and allowed only four hits.
GAME TWO (W, 13-4):
- The Cavaliers connected on two hits in the first inning as they jumped to a 2-0 start. Jessir Rock and Katelyn Loughman each recorded one RBI in the inning.
- Malone scored their first run of the series with an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the first. The Pioneers tied the game 2-2 heading into the third inning. Malone took their first lead of the series as they scored one run on three hits in the bottom of the third
- Jessie Rock led off the top of the fifth with a single to center field. Emma Bobey walked as Rock advanced to second. A Katelyn Loughman RBI single tied the game at 3-3.
- A McKenna Voiers single to advanced Loughman to second. With runners on second and third, Riley Grimm hit a two-run RBI double down the left field line to put Walsh ahead by two.
- Malone cut the Walsh lead to one with a homerun in the bottom of the fifth.
- The Cavaliers went on to connect on seven hits as they scored eight runs in the top of the sixth. Ashley Zgodzinsk led off with a solo homerun followed by a Kalin Kovach single to center field.
- Riley Grimm, Sarah Moats, Jessie Rock, and Kalin Kovach each recorded an RBI to make the final score 13-4.
- Pitcher Sara Gockenbach improved to 4-5 on the season as she threw two strikeouts and allowed only three hits.
