Box Score (PARKERSBURG, W.Va.) – A fast start guided Walsh to a 12-7 victory over Ohio Valley in ECAC action at Parkersburg High School's Stadium Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon. It was the conference opening game for the Cavaliers (1-2, 1-0) and gave Coach Alex Skvarch his first win in his head coaching career. The Highlanders remain winless on the year at 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the ECAC.
Penalties helped the Cavs early on as their first two goals came on man-up opportunities. Collin Trankel (Fr., Apple Valley, MN/HS) and Bryan Crim (So., Reading, PA/Exeter) both got Walsh on the board thanks to assists from Joseph Postlehwait (So., Zanesville, OH/Lakota East).
It was the first of seven consecutive goals to open the game. By halftime, Walsh led 7-2.
The two Highlander goals were a part of a 3-0 run that put the hosts back in the game. Alex Hudgens (So., South Lyon, MI/HS) scored on an assists from Trankel to make the score 8-3 with 6:16 to go in the third, but OVU answered with a goal down a man to close out the period.
Walsh opened up the fourth frame with three of the first four goals scored to take back control of the game. Ohio Valley couldn't get closer than five goals the rest of the way.
Trankel and Hudgens finished the game with two goals and two assists each. Nicholas Castorf (So., Holbrook, NY/Sachem) and Crim both had two goals and an assist. Postlehwait had one goal and two assists.
On the defensive end, Mark Guzik (So., Dublin, OH/Coffman) paced the team with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Castorf added five ground balls. Overall the Cavs caused 14 turnovers and turned the ball over just 12 times. OVU was charged with 30 turnovers overall.
Between the pipes, Dylan Ciolino (So., Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) made eight saves on 25 shots faced.
Walsh is back in action again a week from today against Alderson-Broaddus. Face-off against the Battlers is set for 2 p.m.
