Box Score 2 (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Walsh (10-5, 3-1) scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning of game two to win 6-5 over Wayne State University (7-9, 1-3) to gain a split of the GLIAC double header. The split enabled the Cavs to take three out of four from the Warriors this weekend. Walsh is now idle until next Saturday, when they travel to Tiffin University for back-to-back GLIAC double headers.
Wayne State snapped a 2-2 tie with a single run in the fourth inning of game one, and then added an insurance run in the seventh to win the opener 4-2. Andrew Bonnette (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) continued his hot hitting going 3-3 with an RBI and run scored. Walsh managed only four hits.
In the nightcap, Walsh took the early lead with two runs in the first inning and then added two more in the third to lead 4-0. Austin Szink (R-So., Canton, OH/Jackson) singled in the first run, and Andrew Stalnaker (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) drove in the second run with a ground ball to give the Cavs a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning Szink and Stalnaker clubbed back-to-back doubles to give Walsh a 3-0 lead. Jason McPeek (Jr., Stow, OH/Munroe Falls) then singled home Stalnaker with two outs to give the Cavs a 4-0 lead.
Wayne State whittled away with two runs in the fourth and sixth innings, and scored an unearned run in the eighth to tie the game at 5-5.
Walsh walked off with the win in the ninth when Bonnette opened the inning with a triple to right-centerfield. Jeff Sorenson came on in relief of Warriors' starter Brandyn Hall and promptly issued a wild pitch to score Bonnette with the winning run.
Ryan McSweeney (So., Seven Hills, OH/Trinity) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick-up his first collegiate win.
Bonnette, Szink, Stalnaker and James Thomas (So., Columbus, OH/Newark Catholic) each had two hits.
Bonnette was 9-16 in the four games series, and is currently on a nine-game hitting streak. Szink had four doubles and five RBI in the four games.
