Box Score (VIENNA, W.Va.) – History was made Friday afternoon as the Walsh men's lacrosse program defeated Ohio Valley 12-7 to clinch the program's first postseason bid ever. The Cavaliers (4-11, 3-3) will now move on to face either Mercyhurst or Lake Erie, while the Fighting Scots (4-10, 1-5) closed the season and were knocked out of contention for the post season.
The Cavaliers muscled their way to the win after they broke a 6-6 tie in the second half and went on a 6-0 run to take control of the game. John Arnold provided the go-ahead goal with 5:15 left in the third. Ryan Martin and Frank Savena both added a pair of goals in the run sandwiched around one from Byran Crim.
The Fighting Scots were able to score one more, but by that time the game had been decided as there were only 10 seconds left in the game.
Crim finished the game with three goals to lead the team. Alex Hudgens added a goal and two assists to also reach three points.
Defensively Dylan Ciolino recorded nine saves in the win to put him over the 500-mark for his career. He faced 29 shots on the day.
Walsh will now wait to see who they face for the semifinals scheduled to start next week.
