DETROIT, Michigan - The magical run through the Great Midwest Tournament and the first NCAA Tournament berth for Walsh baseball came to an end on Saturday (May 21) in a slugfest in the Motor City. 

Walsh fell behind and couldn't rally in a 15-11 defeat, ending the season at 31-23 overall to the Wayne State Warriors. 

Walsh opened the scoring with two walks and a two-run double by Jacob Beachy in the top of the first. Wayne State answered back with an eight-run first inning and an 8-2 lead. After another inning of two leadoff walks, Andrew Morse doubled home one run before Matt McGrath followed with a RBI single. The Warriors added three runs in the second and third innings for a 14-4 advantage after three innings. Walsh continued to claw back with four runs in the fourth inning. For the third time in four innings, the inning began on a leadoff walk from Ben Lefebvre. Two batters later, Shea Simmer was hit by a pitch putting two runners on base. McGrath drilled a three-run home run to center field and Joey Holiga added a solo blast to follow. The Warriors scored one run in the fourth as the lead stood at 15-8 at the halfway point. In the eighth inning, Walsh continued to narrow the deficit. Three singles loaded the bases before Cameron Kaiser cleared the bags with a three-run double. Walsh could not get any closer than 15-11. 

McGrath, Holiga, Beachy and Morse all had two hits each as the Cavaliers finished with 11 hits. Kaiser reached base four times with a double, hit by pitch and two walks. 

Cole Brogan finished the game with four shutout innings of relief work, scattering three hits.
